Ductless splits are one of the best ways you can heat and cool your Cape Cod home. They are energy efficient, and a versatile HVAC solution that has become more and more popular, with good reason.
They are comprised of a small outdoor unit and one or more indoor units that are simple to install and to maintain. These systems can be used around your entire home, or as a supplement to take care of a space that simply isn’t staying comfortable.
Studies have found that these units have also helped home owners save money by reducing energy bills. Due to their incredible efficiency, these systems normally have a rebate or tax credit available, depending on how energy efficient the model you are installing is.
The Benefits Of Ductless Mini Splits
Ductless mini splits provide a few advantages that not every HVAC system can. Here are a few of the benefits of a ductless mini split system.
Energy Efficiency
Ductless mini splits are some of the most energy efficient HVAC equipment you can install in your home. They use the same heat transfer process as heat pumps, making their operation less energy consuming than traditional HVAC systems. The reduced amount of energy consumed will lead to a reduction in energy bills as well!
Through the zoning of your heating and cooling, the elimination of ductwork, and a more energy efficient method of creating conditioned air, these systems are going to use less energy than a traditional HVAC system.
Provide Heating & Cooling
Ductless mini split systems have the ability to provide both heating and cooling. Instead of using separate heating and cooling systems depending on the time of year, a ductless mini split can provide whatever you need, making it a year round HVAC solution.
This eliminates the need for a window AC unit, or a space heater. It’s also great for the offseason where you don’t exactly need the heat on all day, but maybe a small bit during a chilly night. The same goes for needing a little cool air during the warm day. A ductless mini split provides both, and can do so efficiently.
No Ductwork Needed
Just as the name states, these mini split systems are ductless, meaning they don’t use ductwork to deliver the conditioned air. Instead they use a small bit of tubing that delivers the air from the condenser outside to the “head” or “cassette” inside that disperses the air.
This helps save energy, and also eliminates the need for ducts. This is great for older homes without ductwork, or smaller homes that can’t fit it. This is also ideal for additions to homes that aren’t designed with ductwork. It’s also great for homes that would like to add some comfort to the garage or shed, and make it into a year round workspace.
Zoned HVAC
Ductless mini splits allow you to “zone” your heating and cooling. This means you can control different zones in your home independently. You can keep one space at 74 degrees, while another is at 71, and another is turned off, because no one is in that room.
Zoning your HVAC system will provide you with a few great advantages over a system that treats the entire home the same:
- Improved Energy Efficiency – Because you aren’t wasting energy heating and cooling unoccupied spaces, it saves you energy, and money on your energy bills!
- More Precise Temperatures – Instead of fighting over the thermostat and trying to make the entire home the same temperature throughout, zoning allows you to pick the temp you want, in the room you want.
- Reduced Stress On Your System – Because you don’t have to use every mini split at all times, you are reducing the stress on your HVAC system. This also lengthens the lifespan of your heating and cooling unit!
Whisper Quiet Operation
Ductless mini splits are very quiet compared to other HVAC technology like central air systems and window air conditioners. Mini split systems operate between 20-30 decibels. This is about the same as a whisper, or some leaves rustling.
To compare, window AC units usually operate between 50-60 decibels. This is a big difference, and can impact your home comfort in a different way. It’s tougher to sleep, work, or hear the television when you are using noisy window AC units. A ductless mini split is barely noticeable when it’s running.
